Hiroshi Saito, Ph.D.

Scientific Advisor

Hiroshi Saito PhD is a tenured Professor of Surgery and Physiology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. His research has centered on the development of clinically relevant animal models of inflammatory diseases, such as sepsis and acute pancreatitis, in which aged animals exhibit significantly elevated disease severity and mortality compared to young animals. These models have been used to reveal underlying physiological/molecular mechanisms for age-dependent disease severity.  His most recent research seeks to understand the mechanisms of physical and cognitive dysfunction after sepsis, especially the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in so-called “Long Sepsis” causing weakness in the skeletal muscle and brain.

He was awarded the Charles T. Wethington Award for Research Excellency, University of Kentucky and elected Fellow of Gerontological Society of America (GSA).  Member of National Scientific Advisory Council, American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) and American Aging Association.
