Samir Patel, PhD., is an Assistant Professor, Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Center (SCoBIRC), Department of Physiology, University of Kentucky School of Medicine. He has spent twenty years researching mitochondrial function in various disease conditions and injury models, including mitochondrial transplantation following spinal cord injury (SCI), optimizing intra-spinal transplantation of mitochondria technique, and improving cellular bioenergetics. More recently, he is researching the effective dosage and safety/efficacy for mitochondrial transplantation in order to promote neuroprotection and muscle regeneration.
